The Low Down...

We’re delighted to invite you to take part in our Summer production of The Importance of Being Earnest at The Great Green Barn, Upper House Lane, Shamley Green GU5 0SX.

Auditions

To be considered for a role in the production, please send us a pre-recorded audition by Sunday 1 March.

There’s no need to overthink it. Prepare a short audition piece; you can find the audition sides here. We’re looking for clear storytelling, confident delivery, well-learnt lines and, of course, the individual flair you bring to the text.

When watching auditions, we’ll be focusing on clarity, projection, character choices and how comfortably you handle the language. Wilde rewards precision and playfulness in equal measure.

Let us know you're sending in a recording, by completing the Audition Submission Form, here.

Rehearsals & Commitment

All rehearsals will take place at The Great Green Barn.

Due to the nature of the production and the relatively short rehearsal period, we ask that cast members make every effort to attend all rehearsals.

Lines should be learnt by Saturday 2 May, allowing rehearsals to focus on pace, comic timing and scene work. Scripts are included in the show fee and are yours to keep.

If any work time is affected by the production, please check in advance that this is manageable.

Missed Rehearsals

We understand that adults juggle busy lives, and the occasional hiccup is sometimes unavoidable. If you’re unwell or unexpectedly unable to attend, please let us know as early as possible.

That said, with a limited number of rehearsals, absences can have a knock-on effect for the rest of the cast. While it’s very unlikely we would recast, repeated missed rehearsals may impact how comfortably roles can be developed, so clear communication is hugely appreciated.

Prior Commitments

A prior commitment is anything already booked before rehearsals begin. If you have one, please include it on your audition booking form so we can plan accordingly.

Show Fees & Tickets

Producing a staged show with high production values involves significant costs, so we ask for a £150 Show Fee (£120 for current Moonlights members). This covers all production essentials, including costumes. The Show Fee is fully refundable if we don't offer you a role.

The only additional cost is tickets to see the show. We ask that cast members sell at least 10 tickets to friends and family to help us cover production costs. We’ll provide posters and flyers.

If you're a current member of Moonlights you can pay your Show Fee here.
If you're not a current member of Moonlights, no worries, you can pay your Show Fee here.

Parts

We welcome all performers. Roles are cast without gender restrictions unless required by the text, so please let us know your preferences on the audition booking form. While we can’t guarantee specific roles or line lengths, we aim to create a balanced and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Weather

This is an outdoor production, so be prepared for the elements. Performances will go ahead rain or shine unless conditions are unsafe.
