Lockdown Policy (Intruder)

At The Man In The Moon, , our health and safety policy prioritises minimising harm by conducting regular risk assessments and ensuring robust lockdown procedures. We are committed to maintaining the safety of both children and staff in case of an intruder alert.

Policy Principles

  • Life Safety: No life should be jeopardised under any circumstances.

  • Regular Drills: Lockdown procedures are tested and practised regularly.

  • Possessions: Equipment and belongings are replaceable; no person’s life or injury should be risked to save them.

  • Risk Assessment: Crew members regularly assess risks.

  • Responsibilities: The on-site crew member ensures this policy is implemented, supported by the Support Manager and staff.

Intruder Alert Procedure

  • Alert Signal: A whistle blown continuously signals an intruder alert. This alert is different from any others used.

Lockdown Procedure

  • Initiation: Lockdown begins with continuous whistle blowing.

  • Gathering: Staff quickly gather all children and take them inside.

  • Indoor Protocol:

    • One crew member gathers children out of sight, away from windows, asking them to sit under tables. Each venue will have a previous agreed safe space.

    • A crew member calls 999 using the club mobile, switches off all lights, and picks up the register.

    • Crew members lock all windows and doors, barricade doors, close blinds, obscure door windows, and place chairs and tables around the children to keep them out of sight.

  • Head Counts: A crew member conducts regular head counts to ensure all children are accounted for.

  • Silence and Stillness: All children and crew members remain silent and still until the situation is declared safe.
