Substance Misuse and Weapons Policy

The Man In The Moon is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. The following rules apply at all sessions, rehearsals, performances and events.

This policy applies to all crew members, children, adults collecting children and visitors on the premises of The Man In The Moon.

 

Smoking​​

  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises.

  • This includes e-cigarettes, vapes and any similar devices.

Children

  • If a child is found in possession of smoking materials, these will be confiscated.

  • The parent or carer will be informed at the end of the session.

Alcohol

  • No one may attend sessions under the influence of alcohol.

  • Crew members must not bring alcohol onto the premises.

Enforcement

  • Anyone under the influence will be asked to leave immediately.

  • Crew members in breach of this rule may face disciplinary action.

  • If a child is found with alcohol, it will be confiscated and the parent or carer informed.

​​Drugs​

  • Illegal drugs and psychoactive substances are strictly prohibited.

  • No one may attend sessions under the influence of illegal drugs.

Enforcement

  • Anyone under the influence will be asked to leave immediately.

  • Crew members in breach of this rule may face disciplinary action.

  • If a child is found with illegal drugs, these will be confiscated and the  parent or carer will be contacted as soon as possible and may be required to collect the child immediately.

Prescription medication

  • Crew members taking prescribed medication that may affect their ability to work safely must inform management.

  • Medication must be stored safely and out of reach of children.

Knives and Dangerous Items

  • Knives, blades and any weapon-like items are strictly prohibited on the premises.

  • This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Pocket knives

    • Lock knives

    • Multi-tools with blades

    • Craft knives or box cutters

  • Other potentially dangerous items are also not permitted, including items intended to cause harm.

Enforcement

  • Any prohibited item will be confiscated immediately.

  • Parents or carers will be contacted immediately. The child may be required to be collected, and the police may be informed where appropriate.

  • Where there is a risk to safety, The Man In The Moon will contact the police to deal with the situation appropriately.

Safeguarding and Duty of Care

  • Crew members must report any concerns about individuals under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or in possession of prohibited items, to management immediately.

  • If a parent or carer appears impaired and this may affect a child’s safety, staff will take reasonable steps to protect the child, which may include contacting emergency services.
